I continually meet people who have had at least one spiritual/metaphysical encounter that cannot be explained by conventional scientific wisdom. The commonality is that these accounts are only shared where it is felt safe.
It is a strange situation where a large portion of the community have had at least one encounter, but are to scared to talk about it because they are afraid of ridicule from those who have probably had their own encounter but are too scared to talk about it. Such encounters are probably very common and are worthy of investigation.
One of the things that makes such encounters worth investigating is that Science accepts that somewhere between ninety and ninety seven percent of the universe is missing. It is known to be there because if it were not the Universe as we know it would self-destruct. The missing Universe is given vague names by scientists like Dark Matter, or in quantum physics language The Vacuum.
My recent work has been centred on exploring the possibility that the missing Universe is the spiritual/metaphysical Universe. I cannot prove this but neither can science claim truth in dark matter. At this stage the absolute best we can say from a position of physical evidence is that something completely beyond our comprehension that neither science nor metaphysics can explain.
The best that any of can say is that it seems there is something out there, but what it is nobody can say.
My first book The Divine Pattern proposed that the Universe was, in part, a pattern that always remained in dynamic balance. Change the smallest part of the pattern and the whole pattern had to change to a new balance. In science dark matter must exist because it had to be there to maintain balance. That a balancing force must exist is not in question.
At the interface of quantum physics and the vacuum there is a consciousness that must exist for experiments to give the results they do. There is the problem in quantum physics of non-locality.
Basically the non-locality problem is that nothing is supposed to be faster than light but information seems to be instantly available at a distance. This could not happen if nothing could move faster than light.
In a critique of Bell’s Theorem Alex Comfort tries to explain non-locality in terms of ‘a second level information channel that moves faster than light.’ It would be equally legitimate to interpret Comfort’s word as ‘nothing works without God.’
I want to explore the missing Universe by collecting the experiences of people who have had a spiritual or metaphysical encounter. I want to collect factual encounters without bringing in religious other beliefs. I would like all accounts to be cross culture and cross-belief to see if there are commonalities that can indicate a line of research.
If there are sufficient contributors I will put them together in a free eBook for contributors.

I am a regular reader of this blog and this may be my 1st or 2nd comment on an article. What particularly impressed me in this post was the following line:
The best that any of us can say is that it seems there is something out there, but what it is nobody can say.
In fact, I am going through a very tough phase in my life. Each day is a challenge in itself especially when my mind plays games with my feelings, emotions, and to a certain extent my basic well-being. But like you said in your (quoted) line, I live in the hope that whatever that ‘something out there’ is, finds in its heart to forgive me and grant me another chance to redeem myself.
Thank you for this article.
P.S.: I wrote these words with Mr. Beethoven’ ‘Adagio molto e cantabile’ from Symphony No. 9 playing in the background.
Louis I’m not the author of this article but I firmly believe that God forgives and really wants us to come to him. It’s usually ourselves who stay away from God, not God who stays away from us. Step one… talk to God.
This idea of the missing mass-energy accounting for the spiritual is bang-on my own idea. In superstring theory up to 26 dimensions are postulated. 26! Why shouldn’t one of these being the spiritual dimension. Of course, by extension, this gives a spiritual existence to everything in the universe, because everything existing exists in those full 26 dimensions.
For what it’s worth, my view of spirituality is that it’s something that transcends the matter/energy universe (with all its peculiarities). However, I also believe the spiritual is immanent within, while still retaining its essential and qualitative difference from, the matter/energy world.
