Can you truly trust any of these companies to have any morality or wisdom of properly handle such research with the primary goal to make profit. I could trust the science, but never those controlling it.

Science is a human enterprise. Too many people don’t realize that, making their belief in science almost religious.

True. At the moment my concern is what lengths those who are in control of the science are going to do and the consequences that will follow.
