Twitter’s chief says the way it communicated its decision to restrict an article was “unacceptable”.

Opinion:
I didn’t link to the FOX News story about this because I thought having a third party report would be more credible. I mean, FOX News is a necessary counterpart to CNN but the two are hopelessly locked in a “family feud” that arguably colors both sides.
To me, it seems Anderson Cooper is brighter than he sometimes appears. Not sure about Wolf. And in the other corner, we have Tucker Carlson who gets positively flushed some nights he’s so pissed off.
My point is that the news has become so partisan in the US that going to a third party for this particular story seemed a good idea.
What is all the fuss about?
In a nutshell, the Biden story was blocked on the basis of it apparently being based on “hacked” material. But none of the social media giants blocked the story about Trump’s taxes, the information for that also coming from a hacked source.
It seems pretty clear that bias does exist with some of the tech giants.
It’s even worse in Canada. I have had totally innocuous comments blocked at the CBC web forum because they did not conform to the silliest of rules and regulations. I felt totally cold when blocked by the CBC. Also, a bit pissed off. This is not the Canada I grew up in. And the CBC is funded by our tax dollars, which you would think would give everyone a voice.
So I can understand how Carlson in particular gets a bit red in the face every now and then.
I’m telling you, USA… You do not want to fall into the same degree of political correctness that Canada seems to be floundering in.
At least you still have dissenting voices.
Here in Canada, we had a kind of radical guy called Ezra Levant. He was sort of like a Canadian Tucker Carlson—clever, a lawyer and did not hold back in expressing his opinions. After a while, his TV channel (Sun News Network) was moved to the far end of the dial, so only premium content viewers could watch his show. This killed the entire network as its viewership took a dramatic hit.
The result?
Sun News is no longer on TV, and Ezra Levant has been relegated to the far corners of the web.
This is how it works. If somebody doesn’t like what you say, they don’t give a reasoned counter-argument in Canada. They just unplug you.
It’s so flimsy and sad, even I am beginning to fear censorship now that my personal genie has come out of the bottle (I’m not playing it safe anymore because that’s a bore and not really me).
So there is a lot at stake here.
Americans! Take heed of what has happened north of the border. Again, you do not want this to happen to your country!
I still love Canada but it has become a diseased place. And I don’t know if anyone even cares anymore. It’s just totally unacceptable. With every passing day, an increasing number of barely competent transnational kreaminals are getting the icing and the cake. And the rest of us worry about scraping up enough batter to even bake a cake.
Edit – Style enhancement. No changes in meaning.

you’ve probably seen this, but it’s come down to either communism (first, socialism) or freedom here in the US. It’s actually quite scary…the riots going on and the “effects” of Covid are just a taste of what could happen. And some people are so blind, saying “democratic socialism” is better. Very scary!

Yeah, the only thing I do like about the “socialism” aspect is the, for the most part, free medicine. But we do pay more taxes than you, so I am not sure how it would balance out if we had to pay a private insurer for that. Our current PM wants to tax more and more and more… and conservatives up here are very concerned.
I haven’t spent a lot of time myself in the US. Been there just a few times. I travel more inside than outside, you could say. But there is a definite energy difference. You can literally feel it when you cross the border. 🙂

Only been to Canada once, enjoyed it for a day while camping in upstate New York when my son was three, right before 9-11 happened.
I guess we’ll see what happens on election day as to what the people decide…I’m hoping enough people have “woken” up – no pun intended, or is it, I don’t know.
Hope you have a great day!

The world is watching and it matters because without a strong US, the whole balance of power could shift… I never used to think geoplitically when I was a kid but now I see how sneaky and harmful some hostiles can be… without some kind of backbone the entire world really could be in trouble. 🦾😲😁

I know…that’s the really scary part.

It could be like WW-II… God permits the evil but only so far. Who knows… I don’t. Just going on my instinct moment to moment… Many writers lamented the rise of Adolf Hitler (Hermann Hesse for example) but the only thing that stopped him was brute force. People today are naive, imo. Sweet talk is just that… when push comes to shove, a toothless nation will fall.

totally agree…too many people think it “can’t happen here”, but it happened in Germany. You’re right, people today are naive, but they’ve also been brainwashed for a couple of generations. I was lucky I had the parents I had – old school…and older (my mom was 33 when I was born, dad 40). My sons generation, he’s 22, and younger has gotten the “full effect” of the brainwashing that started back in the ’60’s (?) with the dept. of education. People like us are a rare breed, but we’re out there…and I think they’re done being silent. At least I hope…

My Mom and Dad were about the same age when they had me too! I was the youngest of 5 kids so am totally familiar with the hippie thing… which I sort of like as long as it doesn’t obscure the realities of what’s really going on.
Around the 1990s a magazine up here carried the headline “Could It Happen Again?” referring to Nazism. I was just seeing for the first time how it can happen in certain bureaucratic settings. A clever way to overtake a country is to infiltrate in such a way that everyone thinks you are mad for saying it is so. IMO hostiles will work on this theme, no end… Russians have been doing it for ages. If it’s not poison or steel, the madhouse is another great alternative for Russian dissidents.
